Campsite Rules, General Responsibilities and Conditions
We welcome you to Collard Bridge Scout Campsite. The Campsite Committee insists that conservation is paramount in its operation. We have drawn up guidelines for your benefit, ensuring that your stay will be pleasurable and at the same time enabling us to continue our work in this lovely part of North Devon.
Leaders: The camp leader at all times will be responsible for the campers and visitors. North Devon District Scout Council and Campsite staff shall not be liable for any loss or damage to property or personal injury sustained whilst on the premises, howsoever caused. The Committee shall not be held liable for refunds in the event of adverse weather conditions or any other reason for visitors terminating their stay on the site early. It is the responsibility of all Leaders to ensure that no damage is caused to the site. Your allocated pitch and the whole campsite should be respected and kept in a clean and orderly condition. Please show consideration for other campers and our neighbours.
Dogs are not allowed on the campsite at all: If you have visitors please insure this rule is strictly enforced. Guide dogs are the only exception.
All Vehicles: The 5mph speed restriction must be observed at all times. Vehicles are not allowed onto the campsite pitches except for loading and unloading. Vehicles must park in the parking areas.
Out of bounds for all activities: The entrance car park and the bank of the river opposite sites 1 and 2, which is private property.
River Yeo: Beware rivers are particularly dangerous at times of fast flow. Access should only be authorised and supervised. The river and stream do not contain drinking water. The fishing rights do not belong to us.
Timber: No timber may be felled whatsoever. Some timber may be found stockpiled under the large beech tree. Please use this timber sensibly, we often find camps with large fires earlier in the season and our supplies are then exhausted later on. Fallen timber is freely available in the woods.
Fires: Fire pits are not to be dug. Altar fires are available for your use.
Refuse Disposal: The contents of latrine buckets must be properly disposed of in the designated area, the yellow drain cover, near the toilets. Please remove all of your rubbish that you are unable to burn; we do not have a rubbish collection. Have consideration for the animal wildlife. The nearest refuse dump is situated just past the Leisure Centre in Barnstaple - turn right at Jewsons and follow the road to the end. Clean cans, bottles, etc can be left for recycling if absolutely necessary.
Toilets: Please ensure that the toilets are cleaned at least once a day. If others are on the site, arrange with them as to who does what. Remember to leave them, as you would wish to find them.
Site Security: It is strongly recommended that, for the security of your property, the entrance gate remains locked. The gate must be kept locked overnight.
Generators: Generators are not to be used on the campsite as they can spoil the quiet of the evening for other campers
NB: The North Devon District Scout Council reserves the right to ask any Group to vacate the site and make good any damage caused. We thank you for your co-operation.
Please remember, in the interests of the children’s safety, the no dogs and 5mph speed limit rules.
